Hilary Meredith Solicitors are delighted to announce that they have renewed their sponsorship of one of our top wheelchair tennis players Jamie Burdekin.
Jamie will be part of the Team GB squad at the Rio Paralympics in 2016 and we are thrilled to be able to join him on that journey to what we all hope will be another Olympic medals success for him. Jamie is presently in training and preparation for a number of events between now and the festive season including the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters in Los Angeles USA between 3rd and 7th November and the Nottingham Indoor Tournament from 18th – 22nd November.
Before each of those exciting world ranking events, Jamie and other members of Team GB will be going on a recce to Rio de Janeiro to look over the facilities and possible accommodation ahead of the Paralympic Games next year.
The Paralympic tennis event is being held between the 7th and 18th September 2016. Wheelchair tennis has been a huge part of the Paralympic movement since its introduction at the Barcelona Games in 1992. Jamie competes in the Quad Class. This is the category for those players with quadriplegia, or spinal cord injury affecting all four limbs. Jamie suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a road traffic accident some years ago which ended a much cherished career as a Royal Marines Commando. It is down to his own strength of character and personal determination that he has since gone on to become one of our greatest Paralympians of modern times.
We will follow Jamie’s progress over the coming months and report to you on his continued success. Meanwhile, you can follow Jamie through his website https://www.jamieburdekintennis.co.uk or his twitter feed @JamieBurdekin1
