The BBC is reporting that military charities are not coping with the increased demand for mental health support.
Shockingly, campaigners estimate that last year, at least 58 veterans took their own lives.
The Ministry of Defence spends £22 million pounds a year on mental health for veterans, while the NHS has dedicated around £6m annually since 2016.
However, in my view, the following questions need urgent answers:
How long does it take the military to turn a civilian into a lean fighting machine?
How long does the military take to decommission that fighting machine back into civilian life?
Does the MoD make any attempt to help veterans readjust to civilian life? If not, why not?
Should the MoD, as employers, be compelled to do so under the military covenant?
