The manufacturer of Lariam, a drug that has been blamed for causing suicides and illnesses among Irish soldiers, has agreed to pay a settlement for the first time in a case taken against it in Ireland.
The Select Defence Committee has also this week published the MoD’s response to its letter regarding Lariam. The Committee believes that this is a matter which merits further scrutiny. Therefore, it intends to take oral evidence on the use of Lariam by the armed forces. Please see link below for full details:
Said Clare Stevens, Director at Hilary Meredith Solicitors Ltd:
“The settlement comes at a time when the Ministry of Defence is facing increasing scrutiny over its use of Lariam with a number of soldiers having suffered horrendous side effects. Their response to date has been completely inadequate.”
