Larium – unanswered questions remain

The manufacturer of Lariam, a drug that has been blamed for causing suicides and illnesses among Irish soldiers, has agreed to pay a settlement for the first time in a case taken against it in Ireland.

The settlement comes at a time when the Ministry of Defence is facing increasing scrutiny over its use of Lariam with a number of soldiers having suffered horrendous side effects.  Their response to date has been completely inadequate.

The Select Defence Committee has this week published the MoD’s response to its letter regarding Lariam. The Committee believes that this is a matter which merits further scrutiny. Therefore, it intends to take oral evidence on the use of Lariam by the armed forces.  Please see link below for full details:
