Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – Raising Awareness

There have been several stories in the news this week that have drawn attention to the significance of recognising and treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the armed forces – both acting service personnel and veterans. Paul Wilson – who served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for 10 years – calls for better education to be given to senior officers about mental trauma. He hopes that a better understanding would encourage continual unity and support networks throughout the forces. More needs to be done to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and it is vital that great support services and charities such as Help for Heroes and the Military Veterans Service continue to receive the backing they deserve.
