Hilary Meredith-Beckham, chair and founder of Hilary Meredith Solicitors, has been shortlisted for Claimant Lawyer of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards 2024.
In securing her place on the shortlist, Hilary has demonstrated how she has secured successful outcomes and positive settlements for her clients, worked to promote and develop ADR solutions for personal injury, championed client care and made a positive difference in the wider community.
Last month, Hilary was presented with a framed certificate for her “groundbreaking work on behalf of the armed forces” at the Law Society Legal Heroes Awards. She is currently leading a landmark legal action for 450 service personnel and veterans who were prescribed the controversial anti-malarial drug Lariam and suffered physical and psychological side-effects as a result. The class action has been running for nine years with campaigners describing it as "the new Post Office scandal".
Commenting on her nomination, Hilary said:
“In 2014, I was privileged to win the Claimant Lawyer of the Year award for the second time. I am humbled to be shortlisted for the same award ten years later and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me. Through my work with servicemen and women throughout the world, I’ve witnessed the sacrifices made by our forces and their families all too often. It is an honour and a privilege to champion their cause.”
Brian Wood MC, a former colour sergeant who commanded troops during the Battle of Danny Boy and was relentlessly pursued by the now disgraced Iraq Historic Allegations Team (IHAT) over false claims of war crimes, congratulated Hilary on her nomination. He said:
“From my own experience as a client, I know that when Hilary takes on a case, she lives and breathes it.
“After being falsely accused of war crimes by IHAT, Hilary’s expertise, support and guidance helped me through an extremely dark time in my life.
“Hilary makes a positive difference to service personnel, veterans and their families every single day. She is absolutely committed to making the world a better place for our armed forces community. She deserves to win this award.”
