A new report by MPs has concluded that military accommodation is in a “shocking" state, with two-thirds of service family homes "in such poor condition that they are essentially no longer fit for purpose".
The Defence Committee found persistent issues with damp and mould and urged the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury to commit more funds to improve the entire military estate "before it deteriorates beyond repair".
The MPs warned that more service personnel would vote with their feet and quit the armed forces unless long-standing problems with housing are resolved.
Commenting on the findings, Hilary Meredith-Beckham, founder and chair at Hilary Meredith Solicitors said:
”This is yet another totally unacceptable example of the MoD treating our service personnel and their families with disdain.
“The military estate is in an appalling condition.
“It is simply not acceptable for the MoD to subject service personnel and their families to such poor quality living conditions. Investment is required right now.”
