At APIL’s Military Conference on Friday we heard the shocking truth from Dr Cynthia Shaw OBE, Senior Principal, Directorate of Judicial Engagement Policy at the Ministry of Defence.
The MoD will “aggressively” push combat extension legislation through Parliament with little debate or objection. It will not be held up by the Brexit debates. The consultation paper was clearly just a token gesture even though service charities, the Law Society, APIL, ourselves and various stakeholders all responded with negative views on the proposal to scrap the military duty of care.
Do we really agree that MoD should be able to effectively remove s10 of the armed forces act without proper consultation and enjoy a blanket immunity from any prosecution or claim?
