The government has published a Bill of Rights in parliament meaning that British courts will no longer have to take into account rulings by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
The legislation will effectively rip up the Human Rights Act.
Hilary Meredith-Beckham, Chair of Hilary Meredith Solicitors and Visiting Professor of Law and Veterans’ Affairs at the University of Chester said:
“The good the Human Rights Act was brought in to do has been overshadowed by abuse of the Act.
“Radical reform is required to protect those who are deserving.
“I have used Human Rights Act to the good effect in military inquests where grieving families have quite rightly called on the protection it offers.”
