Mr Justice Martin Spencer has today dismissed the appeal of former soldier Wayne Bass, who contracted Q-fever while serving in Afghanistan.
Commenting on today’s judgment, Mr Bass’ solicitor, Dianne Yates, partner at military law firm Hilary Meredith Solicitors said:
“This is a devastating blow for Mr Bass who remains in poor health as a result of the Q fever he contracted in Afghanistan.
“Mr Bass served his country bravely and with honour. While this judgment effectively ends his legal action, there is so much more the MoD can still do to help him and veterans like him, who, through no fault of their own, are left without adequate support upon leaving the services.
“As a firm, we have a long history of pursuing ground breaking cases on behalf of armed forces service personnel such as Mr Bass. Moving forward, we will continue to hold the MoD to account to ensure it better directs its corporate mind to the safety of those who serve.”
