Hilary Meredith Solicitors was delighted to sponsor a table at a fundraiser on Friday the 19th May 2017 at the Lifestyle Centre, Woodhouse Park, to support the Safespots in their first Charity Ball.
Wythenshawe Safespots arose from a campaign by survivors of domestic abuse in the area to tackle domestic abuse in the area and to put it at the top of the Agenda in the area. Through their campaign work they have been able to set up a drop in centre offering support based in Civic Centre. This centre opened on the 1st February 2016 and had has over 596 visits since that date.
Although Hilary was unable to attend in person she asked to be read out a very personal message in support, highlighting that even the strongest woman can be affected by abuse, whether that is physical, psychological or emotional, and what first appears to be “abnormal” behaviour slowly becomes the norm so that woman are then afraid to admit to themselves that this is happening.
She also kindly donated £2,000 which was very warmly received.
Among the other guests attending were Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, the Lord Mayor of Manchester Eddy Newman and many Councillors from the area, including our guest, Councillor Brian O’Neill, demonstrating the support and seriousness that this charity is given by the local community.
We wish Safespots all the best for the future and hope to continue supporting them in their fantastic work.
